Workcube ERP, shop-floor link and scheduling for packaging makers
Version 1.0 — Last updated:
What should ERP solve in packaging manufacturing? Short, frequent orders, customer-specific print and sizes, scrap and raw-material use must be tracked on the work order, and packaging placed on the market should be reportable from records. Turkey-based Gramoni implements Workcube ERP for packaging makers and connects the shop floor, scheduling and shipments to it.
Packaging manufacturing has to handle high volume and small batches at the same time. On one machine, jobs with different print and sizes for different customers run through the same day. Typical ERP problems in this sector:
- Short, frequent orders. Every job change means a machine changeover and scrap; if the plan does not see these changeovers, capacity exists only on paper.
- Customer-specific products. Print, size and material change by customer; the product card and bill of materials (BOM) must be set up correctly for every new job.
- Raw material and scrap. When paper, board, plastic granule and ink consumption and scrap are not posted to the work order, cost does not reflect reality.
- Shop-floor data. When produced quantities and downtime reach the ERP late and by hand, stock and delivery dates fall behind.
- Regulatory reporting. The type and quantity of packaging placed on the market is reported once a year; if that data cannot be drawn from records, it is compiled by hand every year.
Industry snapshot
In Turkey, packaging waste is governed by the Regulation on the Control of Packaging Waste of 26 June 2021. As published, the regulation requires packaging manufacturers and companies placing packaging on the market to register in the Packaging Information System run by the Ministry, and to report data on the packaging placed on the market in the previous year through that system by the end of March each year.
On the European Union side the scale is large. According to Eurostat, 81.5 million tonnes of packaging waste were generated in the EU in 2024, or 181.0 kg per inhabitant. Paper and cardboard made up 40.8% of it and plastic 19.9%; 67.0% of packaging waste was recycled.

In Turkey, manufacturing is the largest part of production value. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), manufacturing production value was TRY 27.886 trillion in 2025 (provisional results). In the same year, 28.3% of enterprises with 10 or more employees used ERP software (TÜİK).
How does a Workcube project run?
In this sector, master data usually decides how an ERP project goes. If product cards, BOMs, routings and machine data are incomplete or inconsistent, neither the plan nor the cost reflects reality.
Workcube's implementation methodology has eight phases, each with a written output. In Selection, a needs analysis and a POC workshop are held, and scope, budget and timeline are put in writing. In Design, processes are analysed, workflow diagrams and a fit-gap analysis are prepared, and the conceptual design is approved. In Configuration, master data is migrated; Gramoni provides a migration template for each data type and the company fills in its own data. In Go-live and training, users are trained and the company goes live in stages; Support and Sustainment follow.
What Gramoni offers in this industry
Gramoni works with companies in the packaging sector. The services and products that fit this sector:
- Workcube ERP consulting and implementation. Delivered with Workcube's eight-phase methodology, covering finance and accounting, sales and distribution, and materials and production. Workcube is a Turkish ERP platform. Which needs standard screens meet is set out in writing in the fit-gap analysis during the Design phase.
- MES for Workcube. For Workcube users producing by work order and operation, with an MES on the floor or planning one; filling and packaging and plastic injection are among them. It turns production and downtime reports from the floor into Workcube production, stock and breakdown records. Today it works with trex Dijital's MES; the Workcube side is not written for one particular MES, so a different MES would not mean rewriting the ERP side.
- WorkPlanner for Workcube. Brings production scheduling inside Workcube; the scheduling engine is Novalab's. The result is a Workcube record: plan table, Gantt chart, gross and net material requirements.
- WAMS Logistics. Barcode-based shipment checks (EAN → shelf location → lot → quantity), allocation-based picking, stock counts, warehouse transfers, pallet management and labels; every movement is written to Workcube's stock records.
- AI and automation. Applications that run on your own data, with every result going through human approval, such as monitoring and alerts or records from document photos.
What it does not do
MES for Workcube does not provide lot or serial traceability, quality control, OEE dashboards or machine data collection. WorkPlanner does not do demand forecasting. WAMS Logistics does not do packing, goods receipt, delivery-note creation or carrier integration. Gramoni's products do not file reports to the Packaging Information System.
Frequently asked questions
What is the hardest part of ERP in packaging manufacturing?
The order pattern. Orders are short and frequent, and many come with customer-specific print, sizes and materials, so changeover and scrap costs are high. When actual consumption and scrap are not posted to the work order, cost and stock stay estimates.
What does MES for Workcube do on a packaging shop floor?
It connects Workcube's production planning module to the shop-floor MES. It sends work orders and operations to the floor and creates the production result, output and consumption vouchers from start/finish reports, and a breakdown record on the machine asset card from downtime. Filling and packaging and plastic injection are among its target users. Today it works with trex Dijital's shop-floor MES.
Does MES for Workcube provide lot traceability and quality control?
No. Lot and serial traceability, quality control, OEE calculation or dashboards, machine data collection, maintenance planning and scheduling are outside the scope of MES for Workcube.
What reporting duty does Turkish packaging regulation create?
The 2021 Regulation on the Control of Packaging Waste, as published, requires packaging manufacturers and companies placing packaging on the market to register in the Packaging Information System and to report data on the packaging placed on the market in the previous year by the end of March each year. Check the current text of the regulation for today's obligations.
Can we schedule production inside Workcube?
WorkPlanner for Workcube opens BOMs, routings, machines and working calendars to Novalab's scheduling engine, and the schedule comes back to Workcube as work orders, material requirements and a Gantt chart. It does not do demand forecasting or order promising.
